Six magicians compete for five places in a secret society guarding the world's lost knowledge, and are told plainly that one of them will not survive the year. Almost entirely conversation, and the conversations are the appeal. On the House's scale it rates 2 for spice (warm), 2 for how much of the book is the romance, and 4 for craft. Readers who want dark academia that is mostly clever people arguing.
