# How to Find Someone to Read a Book With

You find someone to read a book with by going where readers of that book already are, stating the title and the pace, and making the door easy to walk through. Post in a public book club, a house hall, a genre Discord, or a subreddit; or found a private circle and wait for one person to take the code. The matching problem is not software. It is naming the book, naming the speed, and being willing to start with a stranger who might only last two chapters.

## How to ask so someone says yes

Four facts, in one message: the exact title, when you start, how fast you intend to go, and where you will talk. Offer a private room so the other person is not performing for a feed. 1. **Name the book and the edition that matters.** Series position, and whether spoilers for earlier books are allowed. “The ACOTAR series” is not a buddy read. “A Court of Mist and Fury, I have read book one” is.
2. **Name a pace you can keep on a bad week.** Not your holiday pace. A target you will hit after a long day. Pages per night beat “we’ll see” and beat a schedule that assumes you are unemployed.
3. **Put the chat in a room with a door.** A private circle, a dedicated Discord channel, a locked group chat. Not a public comment thread and not your main friend group, unless they all agreed.
